Christmas Biscuits

Melting Snowman Biscuits...

Ingredients For The Biscuit...

• 325g Plain Flour, extra for sprinkling
• 200g Butter, extra for greasing
• 125g Golden Caster Sugar
• 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
• 2 Large Egg Yolks

Things You Will Need For The Decorating...

• Large Marshmallows
• Royal Icing
• Coloured Icing Or Food Colouring
• Optional - Silver Dragees, Mini Chocolate Chips, Sweets ( To make buttons and accessories for your snowman )
• Baking Parchment
• Microwavable Plate
• Baking Sheet
• Spoon or Knife

The Method:

1. Preheat your oven to 180c/ fan 160c/ Gas Mark 4
2. Rub butter into flour, until they ressemble breadcrumbs.
3. Add sugar, vanilla extract and eggs to form your dough.

Step 1 of Creating Your Snowman... The Biscuit

Once your dough is made, prepare your work surface, you will need flour, baking sheets lined with baking parchment, a spoon and your oven pre-heated.

Scoop out large lumps of dough using your spoon and sprinkle with flour to prevent the dough to sticking to your hands.

Roll your dough into a ball and then start to press it flat. Make sure you keep it wavey/bumpy effect as you are trying to create a puddle. There isn't a correct shape, just try to keep the biscuit half an inch thick. Lay on your lined baking sheet.

Repeat the above with the rest of your biscuit dough, make them as close to the same size as possible but they don't have to look exact.

Bake your biscuits for 15-20 minutes.

Step 2 Of Creating Your Snowman Biscuits... The     Snow

Once your biscuits have cooled. Place a piece of parchment paper on your work surface, 

place a biscuit on top.

Spoon a puddle of icing onto your biscuit using a back of a spoon or a knife to spread across the biscuit base, making sure you take it right to the edges in some spots to make it look drippy.

Next grease a microwavable plate with butter and place 8 marshmallows spaced apart. 

Set your microwave to 20 seconds, do not leave unattended. Watch the marshmallows, as they start to puff up you are good to go. Don't allow them to get huge or melt.

Grease your fingers and pick up one marshmallow at a time and kind of squash them into place on your iced biscuit. You don't need to be neat or perfect.

Repeat this step for each biscuit.

Step 3 Of Creating Your Snowman... Decorating

At this point you have got your base ready, so you can decorate as you please.

You will need... Some piping bags and size 1 or 2 tips. You can also use a zip top bag/ freezer bag with a very small hole in the corner. If you created your own royal icing add the food colouring to your icing to create the colours of your choice. Alternatively you can buy icing pens from your local supermarket.

To make things easier you can use silver dragees or mini chocolate chips to create buttons and eyes.

Room Fragrance

You Will Need:

•  Some Bamboo Skewers
•  Small Glass Vase
•  Water 
•  Oil of Your Choice

Pour some water in your vase, fill it to about 3/4 full. Add as many drop of your oil as you want.

Put your bamboo skewers in your vase and there ya have it! Your very own REED DIFFUSER! How simple was that!

 Add strips of fabric or ribbon/lace to BRIGHTEN up you diffuser. Don't forget to turn your skewers upside down so the “oil filled side” sticks up and the scent stays stronger for longer. 

Another great idea to is if you find a vase with a lid, they can make special inexpensive gifts too.

Bath Salt

Homemade bath salt is super easy and inexpensive to create.  Here’s how you can make some for yourself in a matter of minutes…

You Will Need:

• 1 cup Epson Salt
• 1 cup Sea Salt
• Essential Oil
• Food Colouring

Gather your supplies and start by mixing 1 cup Epson Salt and 1 cup of Sea Salt together in a large bowl.  I used a beautiful pink tinted Sea Salt to give my salt a little variation of colours.

Add 3-6 drops of food coloring.  A little goes a long way, so start off with just a few drops and add until you get the perfect color.  Mix well.  {And then mix a little more!}

Add 5-10 drops of essential oil {I used Lemongrass} and mix, mix, mix. At this point your whole house will smell amazing.

 Spoon your bath salt into beautiful jars or bottles, top it off with twine or ribbon and you are finished! It’s that simple!

* This recipe you can use different oils for different smells and use different food colouring for variations of colours.
* They make perfect gifts too.

Make Your Own...

Citrus Body Scrub

1/2 cup sea salt 
1/2 cup sweet almond oil 
(can substitute light olive oil or vegetable oil)
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon orange zest

In a medium dry bowl, mix all the ingredients (making sure they don't come into any contact with water, as it will dissolve the salt)

Pour mixture into an airtight container and store in a cool dry place.

Makes a perfect Gift.
